Job Requirements
A Non-Profit Organisation in the Strandfontein, Mitchell’s Plain area is in need of a Program Implementer. The successful candidate needs to have a very good understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder and have excellent administrative skills.
Roles and Responsibilities
General:
• Establish routines and provide positive guidance
• Ensure safety throughout the day
• Ensure children are supervised at all times
• Build child’s self esteem
• Comfort children, ensure they feel comfortable
• Implement positive discipline when required
• Develop Individualised Educational Plan (IEP) and review termly to ensure appropriate and outline goals
• Plan Termly excursions and ensure suitability for Autistic children
• Oversee the Teacher’s Termly Progress Reports – for the parents
• Baseline Assessment involvement
• Establish policies and procedures, including acceptable disciplinary policies
• Perform other duties as required
• Maintain program administration by developing and maintaining current, accurate and confidential files
Individualised Education Program (IEP):
• Provide a safe and developmentally appropriate program
• Program based on learners Individual Support Plan (ISP)
• Provide weekly and monthly schedule of activities, based around a theme
• Plan and implement activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of the children, that are also culturally appropriate
• Develop activities that introduce Maths and Literacy concepts for all learners
• Deliver a curriculum to the Teachers to implement monthly
Evaluation and Monitoring:
• Evaluate performance against these ISP’s, and monitoring compliance with state mandated standards
• IEP – monitor and assess relevance of activities, and implementation
• Teachers – meeting expectations outlined in Roles & Responsibilities, implementation of IEP and constant focus on ISP goals
• Teachers Assistants – meeting expectations outlined in Roles & Responsibilities
• Reporting: Constant monitoring that standard is maintained
• Mentoring Role with Staff
Learning Resources & Outdoor Resources:
• Monitoring learning resource availability and suitability, clean and safe.
• Recommending when new resources need to be introduced, or replaced
• Ensuring Teachers are using the correct resources with the children, depending on their ability
• Take responsibility for the Inventory Book, and the state of the storeroom.
In the Classroom:
• Checking each class daily to ensure that the staff are using appropriate communication methods (PECS, Makaton), and making sure social interaction is taking place.
• Photo evidence required, taken twice per month
• Checking facilities are clean, safe and well maintained, as well as having appropriate stationery available, based on child’s needs
In the Playground:
• Assisting with planning of Daily activities for outside time
• Snack and Lunch time – help where needed
• Outdoor play – help where needed and ensure safety at all times
• Checking each class daily to ensure that the staff are using appropriate communication methods (PECS, Makaton), and making sure social interaction is taking place.
Reporting:
• Overseeing all reporting at Autism Connect
• Weekly Report to Management, outlining overview of the week
• Report to CSPID when needed
• Incidents Reporting to Management
Requirements
• Diploma and Degree in Education is essential
• Drivers license is essential
• To be fluent in isiXhosa advantageous
• Experience in Special Needs education is highly essential
• Needs to have a respectful nature
• Must be computer literate
• Cultural awareness & sensitivity
• Compassionate and understanding
• Able to show empathy
• Have good listening skills
• Able to maintain a professional relationship with parents
• Maintain confidentiality
• Well spoken
